Afternoons with Grammie

Hi there and welcome.  I’m Lucy, and I’m happy you’re here.  

I have been designing and creating with various materials for what seems like my whole life. My great-grandmother Lucie and I used to spend all my free after-school and weekend hours together...sewing; knitting; embroidering; beading; cooking...it seemed to me that that was just the best thing a girl could possibly do with her time. Giving away my creations was the highlight of every week. Whether it was an afghan for an elderly neighbor, a beaded bracelet for a friend, or cookies for my classroom, my entire childhood was spent making something and then finding the person(s) it was supposed to belong to! 

I loved my grandmother very much, and I really loved making things for people. My Grammie Lucie is long gone, but my love for creating things for people continues, and I feel connected to her every time I make something that someone enjoys.

Grammie Lucie was very fond of storytelling as a way to preserve a culture, but also to connect it to others. Storytelling is fundamental to who I am, and I try to express that through my work. I believe storytelling through hand crafted goods can excite and enrich our everyday lives.  Storytelling should also be powerful, allowing us to escape for even the briefest of moments to explore new places and ideas. Every piece I create is a reflection of what I am feeling and thinking based on the events, culture, and movements around me, with hopes that it will inspire you to explore your own new ideas and keep creating - and telling - your own stories!

I am intensely drawn to things found in nature that speak to me about where they came from or what they offer to the universe. Natural gemstones are especially lovely to me, and I carefully select the very best materials I can source, from trusted partners I've met around the world during my 3 decades of wandering.  Using the highest quality gemstones and metals, and my relationships with master craftspeople, lets me offer you things you won’t find anywhere else, illustrating why handmade matters.
